Warwick Rail Line Will Connect With Boston Logan International Airport

It looks like the options for the flying public will be increasing in the Boston and Providence area as a new rail line will be introduced connecting the regional airports.

Plans are under way to expand commuter rail service to T.F. Green Airport in Warwick, R.I., by 2008, linking the airport with Boston via Providence.
In addition to many of the same carriers that fly in and out of Boston’s Logan International Airport, T.F. Green serves as a terminal for Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) of Dallas.
A second station is planned for North Kingstown, R.I., the Associated Press reported Monday, near the University of Rhode Island’s campus in Kingston. via bizjournals.com.

Flight 210, Midwest Airlines jet reportedly experiencing landing gear problems circling Logan Airport

Looks like another plane with landing gear troubles. This one is circling Boston’s Logan Airport.

BOSTON - A Midwest Airlines jet reportedly experiencing landing gear problems is circling Logan International Airport and is expected to attempt a landing.

A spokesman for the Massachusetts Port Authority, which runs the airport, said Flight 210 took off from Logan earlier Tuesday evening headed for Milwaukee.

The 717 has 81 people on board, airport spokesman Phil Orlandella said.

The nature of the plane’s landing gear problems was unclear, he said.

UPDATE: AP; Midwest Air plane prepares for emergency landing

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Midwest Airlines passenger plane with 90 passengers and crew on board was preparing to make an emergency landing in Boston on Tuesday after witnesses noted sparks from the rear of plane shortly after takeoff, authorities said.

A spokesman for the Massachusetts Port Authority said there was a possible problem with the Boeing 717’s right landing gear and that it was expected to land by 9:45 p.m. EST (0245 GMT).

He said the plane, Midwest Flight 210 from Boston to Milwaukee, had been circling over Boston to burn off fuel for about an hour and that it was expected to make a safe landing.

“This sounds precautionary,” the spokesman said.

UPDATE II: Plane with apparent landing gear problem lands safely at Boston airport

A jetliner with a landing gear problem landed safely at Logan International late Tuesday after circling the airport for several hours.

Sparks could be seen coming from an area near the right landing gear as the plane landed just before 10 p.m., but the plane came to a stop without incident.

Why Visit Boston in the Winter

The New York Times does a good job of explainin the benefits of visiting the city of Boston. From a Southerners point of view, I would prefer to visit Beantowm in the summer when the wind is not whistling, but if you do not mind the cold, it could be a fun trip.

WHY GO NOW Winter here evokes holiday tidings like few other cities. Boston, after all, is the land of centuries-old buildings, tree-lined streets and fickle weather. As the Citgo sign in Kenmore Square heralds Beantown baseball, so the weather beacon atop the old John Hancock Tower heralds Boston weather.

From the Boston Pops’ joyful strains of seasonal music to “Nutcracker” performances by the Boston Ballet, this is a city for classic Christmas. Boston remains the link between Europe and United States and the place where that cord was severed. It’s a city that creates traditions - like First Night, Boston’s New Year’s Eve celebrations, which have since spread around the country - and provides an endless list of firsts and oldests (Boston’s subway, for one). A walkable city, Boston has Old World charm - but there’s always a bit of revolution in the air.

JetBlue Offers 25 Dollars Fare From New York to New York

In an attempt to make a splash in the high traffic New York to Boston travel corridor, JetBlue is now offering an introductory airfare of $25 for travel between these two cities. Rival Delta has been the dominant player previously between the two, with their Delta Shuttle, and JetBlue is trying to work its way into the marketplace. JetBLue recently announced their purchase of the 100 seat Embriar 100 seat aircraft, and are planning on using them on this route.

Reuters:

JetBlue will offer introductory fares of $25 each way on what will be up to 10 flights between the cities, with fares later settling at between $40 and $120 each way, undercutting the established shuttle.

JetBlue has ordered 99 of the Brazilian-made Embraer jets through 2016 in what some analysts have called a risky change from most discount airlines’ practice of flying a single aircraft type to minimize training and maintenance costs.

JetBlue is also still taking deliveries of its main, larger, aircraft type, the Airbus A320.

Boston Logan Airport Experiencing Radar Troubles. Delays Expected

If you are planning on traveling in and out of Boston’s Logan International Airport, be very careful in the coming days.

According to News 6, the radar system is malfunctioning.

The Federal Aviation Administration said air traffic controllers were seeing phantom blips on their radar screens — planes that really weren’t planes at all.

As a precaution, controllers increased the distance between planes from three miles to five miles.

At one point yesterday, some flights were being delayed by four hours or even more.

It’s not yet clear what is causing the problem, which was traced to a computer at the airport which feeds information to a regional F-A-A facility in New Hampshire.

Boston employers are recommending travel plans for their employees change to airports outside of the Boston area such as Manchester, NH and Providence Rhode Island.
